Japanese as a Foreign Language (JFL) is a foreign language class offered to students from Preschool to grade 6, whose mother tongue is not Japanese.
Preschool and lower elementary students focus on 'Becoming familiar with Japanese’ by learning words and phrases commonly used in everyday life. Higher elementary students focus on ‘Communication’ and learn grammar, vocabulary through educational games and other language activities.
Alongside the language, we aspire to teach about Japan as well. Activities related to seasons and festivals; such as making New Year Greeting cards using Japanese, traditional Japanese crafts like 'origami' provide the students with an authentic firsthand experience of Japan. |
